So grab your controllers, your popcorn, and your comics—let’s dive into the winners of the first-ever Geekie Awards!
Best Comic Book:

Ultimate Spider-Man #1 – This is the first title from the newest interpretation of the Ultimate Universe, where The Maker (an evil Reed Richards) recreates a world where popular superheroes no longer exist—though their civilian counterparts do. The series kicks off with Peter Parker married to Mary Jane and living a quiet life with their two kids. However, Peter’s life takes a turn when Iron Man visits him to explain what happened to their world and why Peter feels an unshakable sense of destiny. This encounter sets Peter on the path to regaining his powers and training to become Spider-Man once more. With incredible artwork and a compelling story, Ultimate Spider-Man #1 is an easy pick for the best comic book of 2024.
Runner Up: Absolute Batman #1 – DC’s Absolute Universe delivers a bold reimagining of our beloved Batman. Scott Snyder strips away everything we know about the Dark Knight, starting fresh with a Bruce Wayne who has no money, no mansion, and works as a blue-collar laborer. This fresh take also introduces us to the “Absolute” version of Alfred, providing a fascinating new dynamic. If Ultimate Spider-Man wasn’t the top pick, Absolute Batman would undoubtedly take the spot.
Other Nominees: Doom
Absolute Wonder Woman
Absolute Superman
Best Video Game:

Black Myth: Wukong – Black Myth: Wukong claims the title of Video Game of the Year with its breathtaking graphics, refreshing take on Chinese mythology, and challenging, skill-based combat. This action RPG revitalizes the genre by delivering a visually stunning experience paired with a gripping narrative inspired by the classic Journey to the West. Its deep, rewarding gameplay ensures it stands out as a must-play for 2024.
Runner up: Astro Bot – Astro Bot takes its place as one of the standout games of the year, blending delightful platforming with stunning graphics and an endless array of Easter eggs that will keep players hooked for hours. The game’s charm, innovative design, and nostalgic nods to gaming history make it an absolute joy to play. Winning Game of the Year at The Game Awards solidifies Astro Bot as a must-play title for fans of the genre and beyond.
Other Nominees: Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree
Final Fantasy: Rebirth
Metaphor: ReFantazio
Best Movie:

Deadpool vs. Wolverine – Deadpool 3 officially brings the Merc with a Mouth into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it’s safe to say it does not disappoint. Teaming up with a Wolverine variant, Deadpool embarks on a wild, fourth-wall-breaking adventure to save his world from total annihilation. Packed with jaw-dropping action sequences, sharp and unapologetic humor, and more than a few surprising guest appearances, the film delivers everything fans hoped for and more. The chemistry between Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman is electric, bringing depth and hilarity to their chaotic partnership. Crowned as the movie of the year, Deadpool vs. Wolverine is not only a thrill ride but also a beacon of hope for the MCU to regain its footing for a strong 2025.
Other Nominees: Dune: Part 2
Fall Guy
Alien: Romulus
The Wild Robot
Best TV Show:

The Penguin – A must-watch for fans of gritty, character-driven storytelling, The Penguin dives deep into the world of Oswald Cobblepot while expanding Matt Reeves’ vision of a corrupt and violent Gotham City. This thrilling street-level gangster drama is both a compelling character study and a hard-hitting crime saga. Colin Farrell is phenomenal in the lead role, delivering a layered performance that captures the rise of Gotham’s most infamous crime boss.
Depicting Gotham through bone-crunching punches rather than colorful comic book onomatopoeia, the show trades spectacle for grounded realism, and it works brilliantly. Cristin Milioti steals scenes as Sofia Falcone, adding depth and intensity to the series’ power struggles. The Penguin is a highly entertaining, gritty expansion of Reeves’ Gotham, showcasing the city’s darker corners and the broken morality of its inhabitants. A true standout for 2025 television.
Other Nominees: Fallout
Arcane
Shogun
X-Men ‘97
