Legendary Entertainment Greenlights Pacific Rim Prequel Series

Legendary Entertainment is diving deeper into the Pacific Rim universe with a new prequel series, currently in development by Eric Heisserer. Heisserer, who recently inked a first-look television deal with the studio, is set to explore the origins of the Pacific Rim saga, offering fans an exciting backstory to the world of Jaegers and Kaiju.

The Pacific Rim franchise, created by visionary director Guillermo del Toro, imagines a world where an inter-dimensional rift at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean unleashes massive, destructive monsters known as Kaiju. To combat these colossal threats, humanity develops giant, human-piloted robots called Jaegers. The original film debuted in 2013, followed by a sequel, Pacific Rim Uprising, in 2018. Additionally, the universe expanded into animation with Pacific Rim: The Black, an anime series that aired two seasons on Netflix between 2021 and 2022.

This prequel series aims to delve into the origins of the conflict, shedding light on the early days of the Kaiju invasion and the creation of the Jaeger program. With Heisserer at the helm, fans can expect a compelling and action-packed exploration of this beloved sci-fi world.
