Millennium Films has just released the first trailer for Hellboy: The Crooked Man, marking the fourth feature film to bring Mike Mignola’s Hellboy to the big screen. This new installment is the first since the 2019 reboot, which unfortunately failed both at the box office and with critics. Stepping into the titular role is Jack Kesy, making him the third actor to portray Hellboy following Ron Perlman and David Harbour.
Hellboy: The Crooked Man is based on the acclaimed comic book story of the same name. Set in the 1950s, the film moves Hellboy from the urban environments of previous films into a more rural setting, where the horror elements are expected to take on a new, eerie dimension. Kesy’s Hellboy combines elements of the earlier live-action versions, utilizing more practical makeup than Harbour’s portrayal while maintaining a smoother, simpler look compared to Perlman’s iconic version.
Joining Kesy is Adeline Rudolph, who plays his handler. The cast also includes Jefferson White (Yellowstone) as Tom Ferrel, Leah McNamara as Effie Kolb, Joseph Marcell as Reverend Watts, Hannah Margetson as Cora Fisher, and Martin Bassindale as the Crooked Man. The trailer was first revealed by EW.
“We went on a long soul-searching expedition to find the right Hellboy, and we knew that this Hellboy was gonna be a very moody, very kind of dark and creepy movie,” producer Les Weldon told Collider about the casting process. “There’s no gloss, nothing like that. And Jack, look, I had worked with Jack before, as had other guys in our company, and we sort of came to the same conclusion that that sort of personality he has was gonna work really nicely for that film.”
The anticipation for Hellboy: The Crooked Man is building, and fans are eager to see if this latest adaptation can capture the dark, atmospheric essence of Mignola’s beloved character.
