Netflix has unveiled the first teaser trailer for its upcoming anime series, Terminator Zero, promising to explore the Terminator franchise in an exciting new direction. This series serves as a soft reboot, continuing the story directly after Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
The series is set in two pivotal timelines: 2022, where a war between human survivors and machines rages on, and 1997, the year Skynet became self-aware and initiated its war against humanity. The plot centers around a soldier sent back to 1997 to protect Malcolm Lee, a scientist working on a new AI system to counter Skynet’s attack. As Malcolm grapples with the ethical dilemmas of his creation, an assassin from the future relentlessly pursues him, drastically affecting the fate of his three children.
Terminator Zero is created and helmed by Mattson Tomlin (Project Power, The Batman II), who aims to capture the original movie’s sci-fi horror essence, evident in the series’ first trailer.
