The nightmare isn’t over. During Summer Game Fest 2025, Capcom unveiled Resident Evil: Requiem, the ninth mainline installment in the legendary survival horror franchise—and it’s shaping up to be one of the most intriguing entries yet. Slated for release on February 27, 2026, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, Requiem marks a chilling return to the series’ roots while hinting at bold new directions.
The trailer wastes no time plunging fans back into the hellscape of a decimated Raccoon City. Long presumed lost to nuclear fire at the end of Resident Evil 3, the city re-emerges as a haunting, almost open-world graveyard of horrors. The RPD lies in ruins, graffiti-stained and gutted by time and terror. There’s a sense that this familiar city may be more explorable—and more dangerous—than ever before.
Enter Grace Ashcroft, a fresh face in the Resident Evil canon. An FBI technical analyst with a haunted past, Grace is pulled back to the place where her mother was murdered, only to uncover a web of death that feels anything but random. The trailer hints at disturbing new enemies, psychological terror, and a mysterious antagonist who calls her the “chosen one.” Whether Grace is the sole playable protagonist or just one of several remains unclear, but her introduction brings a fresh psychological dimension to the franchise.
Capcom is promising a deeper, more immersive experience built on new technological advancements, but has yet to reveal how gameplay will evolve. Still, between the eerie cityscapes, cryptic dialogue, and the promise of returning lore, Resident Evil: Requiem already has our pulse quickening. The series may be nearly three decades old, but with this reveal, it’s never felt more alive—or more terrifying.
