Warner Bros. has unveiled a new image from the highly anticipated anime film, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim. The image showcases Héra of Rohan, voiced by Gaia Wise.

Set 183 years before the original trilogy, the film explores the fate of the House of Helm Hammerhand, the legendary King of Rohan. The story begins with an attack by Wulf, a cunning and vengeful Dunlending lord. Seeking retribution for his father’s death, Wulf forces Helm and his people into a desperate last stand at the ancient stronghold of the Hornburg, later known as Helm’s Deep.

Héra, Helm’s daughter, finds herself in a dire situation and must rally the resistance against their formidable enemy.

Screenwriter Philippa Boyens, who also penned Peter Jackson’s live-action films, commented on the suitability of anime for this story, stating: “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim works for anime because it is character-driven and contained within its own world, two things that work beautifully with Japanese storytelling, and there’s no better storyteller in this medium than Kenji Kamiyama.”

The voice cast includes Brian Cox as Helm Hammerhand, Luke Pasqualino as Wulf, Lorraine Ashbourne, Yazdan Qafouri, Benjamin Wainwright, Laurence Ubong Williams, Shaun Dooley, Michael Wildman, Jude Akuwudike, Bilal Hasna, and Janine Duvitski.

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is set to hit theaters on December 13th.
